Chapter Ten

A SMALL THRILL passes through Kyle as he lets himself into Aidan’s house. Aidan’s still at work, so Kyle’s car is the only one in the driveway, and it makes something flutter in his chest. Aidan trusts him enough to let Kyle wander through his house unsupervised.

It’s maybe a silly thought, because Kyle trusts Aidan with his body, trusts him not to hurt him too much, trusts him enough to slip into subspace and watch over Kyle when he’s not in a position to watch out for himself. In comparison, Aidan giving Kyle the keys to his house isn’t as important.

Still, it feels like a big deal.

Kyle pokes around Aidan’s kitchen first. He looks in all his cupboards, inventories the fridge then the pantry. He makes a mental grocery list as he drifts into the living room then wanders back into the bedroom.

He doesn’t open drawers or look under Aidan’s mattress or help himself to a tour of Aidan’s closet, because he believes in some boundaries, but his eyes do catch on the half-full laundry basket.

He knows Aidan likes to shower when he comes home from work, and Kyle—Kyle has an idea.

Aidan keeps saying that him not getting naked isn’t a thing so Kyle feels no qualms about pushing.

He takes the laundry basket into the bathroom and pulls every towel he can find from the closet—bath towels, hand towels, facecloths—and he drops them all in the laundry basket. He takes the towel hanging up on the back of the door and the hand towel on the counter.

He grabs the dishtowels for good measure and dumps them all in the washing machine. Before he can overthink—or maybe properly think—about what he’s doing, he adds some detergent and turns the machine on.

Once the washer rumbles to life, he closes the doors to mute the sound, and returns to the kitchen to see if he can make anything edible out of what Aidan has in his house. Next time he’ll plan in advance and bring groceries with him.

The chicken is still in the oven when Aidan comes home, front door hitting the wall as it swings open.

Kyle stirs the rice before going into the living room to say hi. He bites his tongue against a, “How was your day?” or, “Glad you’re home”; anything that sounds too domestic. He can’t help the smile that says all those things.

He watches as Aidan dumps his messenger bag on the coffee table and his backpack on the couch. Aidan’s jacket is rumpled from his bags, and his hair is windblown and a mess. His cheeks are pink from the wind or the heat in his car, and Kyle wants.

Next time I’m here when Aidan comes home from work, I’ll greet him with a blowjob.

Aidan runs a hand through his hair as he looks up. He startles when he sees Kyle as if he’d forgotten Kyle would be here.

“Surprise,” Kyle says.

Aidan flushes. “I knew you’d be here. I just—” He waves a hand.

“It’s Friday. Your students fried your brain.
